Consisting of three sites, the Humber Regional Hospital network was founded in 1997. More recently, Humber River's redevelopment plan, which was approved by the government of Ontario, broke ground on their new $1.75 billion facility close to the Keele Street and Highway 401 intersection in December of 2011. This new facility will be Ontario's, and North America's, first fully digital hospital, which is set to open in 2015. The Humber River Hospital Network plans to showcase the new location as an environmental and technological example of cutting edge hospitals in Toronto, Canada, and the world.
The Keele/Highway 401 site will be affiliated with the medical school at Queen's University.
Humber River Hospital operates Canada’s first home nocturnal dialysis program and houses one of Toronto's major cancer programs. Humber River is also home to Ontario’s first ever Centre of Excellence for laparoscopic bariatric surgery. In addition to more common health care services, Humber River also has a mental health and addictions program.
Services for Seniors
Humber River delivers outpatient physiotherapy services for all patients in need. Additionally they provide geriatric services and palliative care programs available to regional senior patients.
The Humber River Hospital Foundation provides support to general patient care and special in-house programs through fundraising efforts. The foundation's current $225 million fundraising campaign is focusing on providing assistance to the new Keele and Highway 401 location.
Beyond the immediate affiliation inside the Humber River Hospital Network, which includes the Church Street, Finch Street and Keele Street sites, Humber River Hospital is affiliated with Queen's University's Faculty of Medicine and their namesake Humber River Hospital Foundation as a charitable fundraising organization.
Humber River Hospital delivers a range of acute care services and programs at the regional, provincial, national and even international level, creating many educational and career growth opportunities.
