For example, to establish healthy eating habits, dementia patients need to eat a variety of foods that do not have high saturated fat or cholesterol counts. In addition, sugars need to be limited, and salt should be used only moderately.
According to the American Heart Association, no more than seven percent of our total daily calories should come from saturated fats. For your daily cholesterol intake, a healthy adult should not consume more than 300 mg of cholesterol a day, while the number goes down to 200 mg if the person has diabetes, high cholesterol, or heart disease.
Therefore, when going to the grocery store, it’s important you keep these numbers in mind so that you can check the food labels to ensure your meals are not going over the recommended amount. Not only will this help to maintain a healthy weight, it will also help to boost brain power.
