The leaves are changing colours, the air is getting crisper and its a perfect time to go out and enjoy some fall activities. Seniors centres, community programs and health foundations are all hosting fun-filled events for seniors and the home care community.

National Seniors Day

Sunday October 1

What better way to start the month than with a national day for seniors? The Government of Canada is happy to celebrate seniors today and theyre providing a whole list of great resources to help make this day special. Head to the Government of Canadas Seniors’ Page for downloadable postcards, posters, a Do-it-yourself event planning guide and much more.

There are going to be plenty of events all over the country today and a lot of them can be found posted on the National Seniors Day Facebook Page.

Islington Seniors’ Centre Stroll-a-Thon

Seniors’ Excercise and Fall Prevention

October 6, 13, 20, 27 and November 3

The Toronto Public Library a free class for seniors about exercise and fall prevention. The class takes place at Lillian H Smith Library on College street from 10:30 to 11:30 on the dates above.

ESS Support Services Dine for Dignity Gala

Sunday October 18

ESS Support Services is a not-for-profit that supports older adults and the caregiving community in Etobicoke. On October 18, theyll host their annual fundraising gala at the Pantemonte Banquet & Convention Centre (Highway 27 & Finch). Vocalist Michael Vanhevel will be there to entertain the crowd and there will be a dinner and silent auction.

My Home, My Community: Safety Starts Here

Tuesday October 20

The Ontario Coalition of Senior Citizens Organizations (OCSCA) is hosting a one day information session about how to live safety in a retirement home setting. Featuring speakers from Toronto Police Services and Elder Abuse Ontario, the day long session will focus on how to have the safest and most comfortable housing situation for seniors. The event will run from 9:30 to 3:00 at North York Memorial Hall but you must register by October 6th.

The OCSA’s Annual Conference

October 21 & 22

The Ontario Community Support Association (OCSA) is hosting its annual conference and trade show, Leading the Shift: The Power of Thinking Differently. The conference will feature industry leaders including Keynote speaker, Astronaut Dave Williams. For those in the caregiving industry, this event will focus on the future of home and community support.
