Were in the middle of a big heat wave in Toronto, but theres plenty of summer activities to keep the heat off your mind. Here are some great events to check out in the month of August:
Brampton Motorcycle Associations 34th Annual Toy Ride Parade
August 22, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Downtown Brampton
William Osler Health System Foundation posts great events all year round about the western Toronto healthcare community. Coming up in August, William Osler is promoting the Brampton Motorcycle Associations Toy Ride Parade. The parade will be cruising through the streets of Brampton and asking for monetary donations or donations of new, unwrapped toys.
Caregiver support groups at Etobicoke Services for Seniors
Aug 11 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Etobicoke Medical Centre Family Health Team
Aug 12, 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Scarlett Heights Retirement Home
If you or someone you know is a caregiver for someone with Alzheimers, Etobicoke Services for Seniors hosts a monthly caregiver support group. The group meets at Scarlett Heights Retirement home on August 12 and Etobicoke Medical Centre Family Health Team on August 11. The support groups are positive space where caregivers can share their stories, experiences, and learn more about caregiving for people with memory illnesses.
Preventing or Managing Pre-Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes
Aug 17, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Islington Seniors Centre
The Islington Seniors Centre occasionally hosts informative sessions on easy ways to watch and maintain a healthy lifestyle for seniors. On August 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Sarah Dunford, a registered dietician from the Toronto Diabetes Education Program will be at the Islington Seniors Centre giving an informative talk about diabetes. Frank Horner Community Centre – Social Circles
Wednesdays 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
These events are not specific to the month of August but are a great space to spend time with others. Frank Horner Community Centre, located south of Evans Ave near Browns Line, hosts weekly social circles all year round.
