Men Need to Take Care of Their Health, Too!
It can be a common misconception that women are the only ones who care about their health. Men care about their health, too, even though they may not take as much time out of their schedule as women to make it a priority.
But that is all about to change. Our in-home care providers at Qualicare want to share some tips on how men can start making themselves and their health a priority.
Start Taking Care of Your Health
Let’s take a look at ways men can start taking better care of their health:
Visit the Doctor
When it comes to your health, the best form of treatment is prevention. That’s why it’s important for men to have regular checkups with a physician to ensure they’re up to date on screenings and vaccinations.
There are a number of recommended screenings for men that vary somewhat based age. They include:
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm
- Blood pressure
- Colorectal cancer
- Hepatitis C virus
- Prostate cancer
Watch What You Eat
What you put into your body is extremely important, especially as you age. You want to make sure you are fueling your body in the right way by consuming a healthy, well-balanced diet.
Fill your plate with plenty of fruits and veggies, lean protein (like chicken or fish), whole grains, and low-fat dairy. Limit your consumption of sodium, saturated fat and added sugars.
Just Say No to Smoking
Smoking can put you at an increased risk for high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and other medical conditions.
If you smoke, now’s the time to stop! Your body can beginning recovering immediately after smoking cessation, with positive effects for years afterward. Talk with your doctor about a cessation strategy that will work for you.
